My sweet co-worker shared this Pultizer-Prize winning article with me... and I thought it would be the perfect way to start the morning off. It's a great reminder to us all, to take a few moments each day to recognize and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us in our daily lives.
The article details the familiar story of a typical, busy morning commute in a popular D.C. metro station. An incredibly accomplished and world famous violinist sets up as a street performer working for a few extra bucks at the metro. The experiment: how many passerby's, most rushing off to work, would stop to appreciate and listen?
I know it's long, but the language is rich and engaging... and it is an entertaining and fascinating read!
It definitely brought me some perspective about the importance of slowing down every once and a while to notice and appreciate those ever day sights and sounds we often take for granted. Heck, all 1,097 people who passed by the talented Joshua Bell that morning in L'Enfant station missed the opportunity for a free concert... where decently good tickets usually run $100 a pop! You bet I'm going to start paying more attention :)
